March 7, 2009 - The live dash cam will be returning, but not in the previous capacity. More information to follow.

March 7 , 2009 - Blogger will be shutting down their ability to update our site using their blog software and sending it via their FTP tools. This basically means we can use blogger but we have to use their hosting... which defeats the purpose of having our own domain.. So, over the next few weeks I will be working on migrating the site back to Greymatter, which will be used as our primary blogging software again. I have considered wordpress but after looking at the files I don't have time to learn PHP, so this is the easiest. Blogger will continue to be used until May 1, 2010, when blogger intends to shut down FTP access. Further info to follow.

subject: Hotels Suck!

So because of the holiday Mary and I have been stuck in the hotel for the 4 day weekend. I think the highlight of every day was going to Wal-mart to stretch our legs and fit in our daily walks because its too damn cold to walk outside... for my taste anyways. We have a small refrigerator and microwave supplied by the hotel, and we brought our blender, large coffee pot, electric skillet, an electric heating element, pots & pans, and silverware... so we've been making do on food we've bought at Wal-Mart and what groceries we brought from home so they wouldn't go bad. But, boredom hunger is at its worst when you have NOTHING to do over 4 days!

Twice just for scenery change we went to Joplin, MO just to explore and see what we could find. I remembered Joplin is the home of the infamous Chrome Shop Mafia of '4 State Trucks'... the guys from the CMT show 'Trick My Truck'. I made it a point, despite being called a dork, nerd, and whatever else you may for the word loser, to drive by and get a photo just to say I was there... so without further adue here are the pics...

This is the main garage where they shot the show.

The Mob Sled was shown on several episodes... and is on the main sign at the roadside.

subject: Happy Thanksgiving!

Mary and I wish everyone a happy thanksgiving.. even though this post is a bit late.

After a major disagreement between the server and I, I finally have the photo gallery up and in operation but not everything is the way I want it as of yet. I have most everything the way I want it but i'm having problems finding code that directs major aspects of colors and placement of certain items. But, at least the pictures are now viewable (only took about 6 hours of work to discover the image rendering software wasn't where I thought it was). Anyways, more pictures to come this week.

I'm also working on the "add a comment" link just below our posts... I can't yet figure out how to fix that. That will come soon enough after I get the gallery fully operational. Until then...

subject: 3 Days of Training

Well, we made it through our third day of training. Daryl and I are both doing awesome! We are both probably in the top 5 of our class right now as far as picking up the driving and shifting. Daryl has already nearly mastered the basics of a 2005 Kenworth T2000, while I haven't mastered but am doing very well (if I do say so myself, and believe what my trainer is telling me) with the 3 (yes! THREE) different types of trucks I have learned to drive in the last two days, one of which being the Freightliner Century I got to toy with for just a bit before calling it early today for Thanksgiving break.

We are now stuck in our hotel for the next 4 days (and are trying desperately not to be too excited about it). Both Daryl and I were very impressed by some of the people we met at Conway and the school. Our recruiter for Conway, Christine, invited us to Thanksgiving dinner at her house and she hasn't even met us yet; although we did bother her enough over the last few weeks with phone calls and e-mails she probably feels like she knows us very well. We were also invited to Thanksgiving dinner by my first practical driving trainer Kelly who helped with our driving training for a couple of days until her group comes in for the CFI/Conway boot camp she teaches.

So far I am extremely impressed with both the trainers and Conway. We have been treated very well. All the instructors at Conway are very (and I mean VERY) knowledgeable about both the profession and how to instruct same. We are getting to know our class mates and teachers and have already gotten to the point where we are all joking and playing around when the occasion doesn't call for complete seriousness. As far as Conway goes, I am so glad we picked this company. Our first day at school Steve came and interviewed us in person as well as bringing everyone (even those that weren't Conway employees) lunch.

Like I said earlier, today was our second day in the trucks. We were on straight backing as well as more general driving on a large eight-figure track (designed in such a way to represent city blocks). As I also mentioned, I haven't had a chance to really get comfortable or master any of the different types of trucks as of yet. I started with one yesterday and got pretty good at it, had a different one this morning, and yet another one this afternoon. I figure I will have a leg up as we will all be trying our hand at each different type of truck and everyone else so far has only driven one type. I can now get all three into gear, shift, turn, and generally keep them moving forward at a decent pace with out bucking as well as down shifting and making tight button-hole and square turns. The instructors have also set-up barrels and cones to make the turns more difficult.

Daryl has gotten a general outline for the photo gallery and we have some pictures on there for everyone to look at. There are some pics of me in two of the different trucks and some of Daryl in the new love of his life. We don't have much yet, but as we do more we will definitely try and keep the new pictures and updates coming.

subject: Welcome!

Well, for those that did not know, I am no longer in law enforcement. However, my wife Mary and I have decided to follow a goal, or dream if you will, of mine since I was 6 years old... which is driving a big rig longhaul. We are pretty much complete with the telephone interviews and such with Con-way Truckload and will be headed down to Neosho, Missouri on Sunday, 11/23/08 to begin our CDL training at Crowder College. After that, on 12/21/08, we will be headed to the Con-way headquarters in Joplin, Missouri to do 3 days of orientation before heading out with our respective finishers (trainers in Con-way lingo) for 3 weeks or 7,500 miles.. whichever comes first. After that we'll be assigned our own truck, either a Kenworth T2000 or Freightliner Cascasia (please please please... these things are BEAUTIFUL) and will head out on our first load shortly after.

Our route from Denver, Colorado (our home) to Neosho, Missouri, will take us through BEAUTIFUL Kansas.. WOOHOO. Heres the route we plan to take...

Future posts to the site will include almost daily posts of our location and where our loads are, will be, or have taken us with maps, as I have already posted above. I have created this primarily for my kids and family to follow us.. but also anyone interested in the industry, Con-Way, knows me and is curious, or those that stumble across the site from any search engine.

Anyways, right now not much is working on the website as I'm still building it so you will probably find broken links.. but in due time I plan to have all that fixed. I also intend on having a photo gallery up. For family, I used to have a ton of pictures but my network drive took a crap and I lost all of them. So bare with me as I get more photos to put up....or when I get my hard drive fixed.
